Welcome to Cheatham Hill Elementary's Rocket Reader program—an exciting journey designed to spark a lifelong love for reading in children! From September to March, kids dive into books, complete monthly forms to earn spots at our Rocket Reader Celebration.
We believe in the transformative power of reading. It's not just about mastering the skill of reading words on a page; it's about embarking on adventures, exploring new worlds, and broadening horizons. Through our Rocket Reader program, children develop crucial literacy skills while also nurturing their imagination and creativity. By immersing themselves in a diverse range of books, they not only enhance their reading comprehension but also cultivate empathy, critical thinking, and a lifelong thirst for knowledge.
Join us as we fuel a passion for literacy and empower children to discover the joy of reading!

Each month, from September through March, students will bring home a new form to complete. The student must fill out the entire form to be counted for that month. They will then receive a certificate and a small prize. Prizes will be given out near the beginning of the next month. Seven COMPLETED forms are required to attend the end of the year Rocket Reader Celebration. Please review the following steps with your child(ren):
Students may choose any author or category of book they wish to read that is on their reading level (unless guided differently by their teacher). Students may check books out from our Library Learning Commons or they may visit their local public library. All students in Cobb County have a free library PASS for any Cobb County Public Library (for more information, please take a minute to visit: http://www.cobbcat.org/librarypass/). Ebooks count as well! We suggest having family reading nights when you leave the TV off, and the whole family reads together (children learn by example).
On the back of the form are questions designed by the teachers to verify that the student has read the books listed on the front. All questions must be answered to receive full credit. Questions are designed to reinforce grade level standards. Handwriting should be neat and legible.
Forms should be turned in by the due date (listed below) to the Learning Commons and placed in the Rocket Reader boxes. Forms may be turned in as soon as they are finished but please do not rush! We want students to get into the habit of reading on a regular basis, and we would like to see students put their best effort into filling out the Rocket Reader forms.
Only students who complete their entire form for ALL 7 months will be invited to a Celebration of Champions in May. More information will be coming about this celebration.
Select the form for your child's grade.
Please be sure to include the month, student's name, and teacher to ensure it will be counted to the end of year ceremony.
Please feel free to contact Stacy Sheikh if you have any questions or concerns
regarding this program.
